Justine Emily Najjinda, a Ugandan political activist and teacher, is reportedly wanted by security operatives over her alleged role in mobilizing women, youth and teachers for the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).
Najjinda, joined the People Power Movement in 2018, which later became the National Unity Platform (NUP) and participated in political campaigns, has previously been arrested for her political activities. Her reported pursuit comes amid the continued detention of several NUP supporters.
She is also a representative of the Uganda National Teachers’ Union and a member of the Rotary Club of Buloba. Security sources allege that her organizing activities attracted the attention of government agencies.
“We want Najjinda to explain her role in mobilizing teachers, youth and women, and identify those sponsoring her activities,” a security source told this publication.
Najjinda and other NUP supporters were previously arrested while distributing food and household supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Human Rights Watch, the United Nations, the U.S. State Department and other organizations have raised concerns about alleged human-rights abuses by Ugandan security forces, political violence and restrictions on opposition activities.
